圣诞节前夕，酷爱电子游戏的小男孩芬恩·贝克斯特（克里斯蒂安·马汀 Christian Martyn 饰）跟随父亲麦森（皮特·达肯哈 Peter DaCunha 饰）、母亲凯瑟琳（艾莉·哈维 Ellie Harvie 饰）以及姐姐爱莉西丝（祖蒂·佛兰 Jodelle Ferland 饰）从加利福尼亚搬到位于缅因州山间一处历史悠久的大房子内居住。芬恩想象力过于丰富，他坚信这座房子肯定盘桓着鬼魂，为此惶惶不可终日。圣诞夜当晚，父母相约参加圣诞派对，留下两个小家伙看家。
